It is an exciting time for the Gamma-Tau Chapter. Brother Nick Monroy (‘20) and Brother Tyler Huebsch (19’), Grand Procurator and Grand Treasurer respectively, visited Nashville, Tennessee this summer to represent Gamma-Tau as delegates at the 73rd Biennial Grand Conclave. The chapter had a strong display at Conclave, winning the coveted Founders Award of Excellence (FACE) for the second consecutive year in a row, while also several receiving awards for both Champions Quest (#14 in Nation in 2019-2020) and Ritual Proficiency.
As the school year kicked off, Gamma-Tau celebrated the inauguration of Brother Ben Capoleto (‘18) and Brother Taylor Weinz (‘18) as the University of Colorado’s Student Body Presidents after being elected on the EMPOWER ticket this past spring. We wish them the best of luck and the support of the order as they lead our university and represent our chapter this year.
Gamma-Tau's annual fall philanthropy, Beachapalooza, returned for the first time in two years to widespread anticipation and acclaim. House DJ Dombresky and over 1,000 guests celebrated the return of Beacha with a five hour long concert and party in the chapter house backyard, dubbed by many as “the greatest college party ever”. This year's Beachapalooza raised over $10,000 for the Kappa Sigma Military Heroes Campaign, the highest single-event total in chapter history.
At the beginning of this year, the Executive Committee has prioritized a focus on philanthropic efforts in the Boulder community. Aside from Beachapalooza, the Gamma-Tau chapter also hosted a BBQ in partnership with Alpha Phi, raising $3,000 for the non-profit CORE, which aims to combat suicide and depression in college students. Gamma-Tau also brought back the annual charity volleyball tournament, hosting six of the school's sororities with brothers serving as coaches. Chi Omega took home this year's championship, and the event raised over $2,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
In the spirit of Kappa Sigma’s Champions Quest, the Gamma-Tau chapter made it a top priority to be one of the leading recruitment chapters in the nation. With COVID-19 limiting 2020 Fall Rush numbers, 2021 Fall Rush saw a resounding 600 potential new members visit the Castle. Of those 600, 68 of the University of Colorado’s top undergraduates were extended bids to the Kappa Sigma Fraternity, making Gamma-Tau the 7th best recruiting chapter in the entire fraternity. The Alpha-Eta pledge class looks to be one of the largest and most qualified in years, and we are eager to see the impact they leave on our chapter.
We look forward to inviting our alumni back to Boulder this year for CU Homecoming Weekend, 11/5 through 11/7. Events kick-off Friday night with a Welcome Reception and Casino Night tournament, benefiting the Chapter House Capital Fund. The Homecoming celebration continues Saturday morning with a tailgate in the parking lot before the Oregon State game, and concludes Sunday, with Gamma-Tau Day at the Flatirons Golf Course driving range. Looking ahead, we are excited to announce the return of the alumni trap shoot tournament benefiting Kappa Sigma Military Heroes Campaign, currently being planned for Spring 2022 at the Boulder American Legion – please save the date and help us spread the word! Alumni are encouraged to visit the chapter website, cukappasigma.org/alumni, for the latest details on these events, to RSVP, and to update contact info.
